The main objective of WAVES 2023 was to explore the potential of marine robotics in various applications in the Azores.
Among the initiatives presented, one that stood out was that of INESCTEC’s Centre for Robotics and Autonomy (CRAS) in Porto, which showcased the robotic technology it develops and researches.
Another objective linked to the first was to raise awareness among local companies and organisations of the importance of marine robotics as a solution to problems related to their scientific and economic activities. Consequently, the companies Futurismo, Geoparque Açores, GlobalEDA and Trisolaris took part.
The meeting featured several presentations related to the objectives of this workshop:
-- Challenges and problems in data acquisition to support marine research | Paulo Torres | Andrea Botelho | José Cascalho - CIBIO -IS2E LIACC
-- Navigation and cartography: Underwater perception | Alexandra Nunes | Rita Gaspar - CRAS INESCTEC
-- Capabilities and applications of the CRAB ROV (Customisable Remotely Operated Aquatic Bot) | Carlos Gonçalves - INESCTEC
A final discussion was held on the topic “Applications of robotics in the seas of the Azores: problems, challenges and solutions”
